WAR LOAN SAVINGS

(Press. Assn.-

SHOULD BE RETURNED TO BRITISH TAXPAYER

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. July 12, 8.30 p.m. LONDON, Tuesday. In the House of Commons, Mr. Winston Churchill congratulated the Chancellor, Mr. Neville Chamber- , lain, upon the conversion scheme, the secreey and boldness of which, he said, constituted a model. The savings achieved should be returned to the taxpayer in the form of relief, otherwise the great operations would be deflationary, and the national spending power would be reduced by £23,000,000 which could only be balanced by a corresponding reduction in taxation. Sir Stafford Cripps urged the Government to treat the present situation as in 1914. The Government should be prepared to take control of everything to bring national prosperity.
