Rec. July 12, 9.45 p.m. CALCUTTA, Monday. Resenting the new taxation 500 went to the palace to request the Maharajah of Ridaipur to rescind the order, Failing to obtain satisfaction, the mob attacked, the ijalace, the troops and police fired, killing 10 and seriously injuring 80. Many of those endeavouring to escape rushed into the palace lake and were drowned. The total fatalities are at present unknown. The incident has caused tense feeling in the city, and the inhabitants have totally "suspended business as a protest against the firing.
