LADIES' HOCKEY

EXECUTIVE MEETING CLUBS DIVIDED INTO TWO GRADES FOR NEXT COMPETITION. ROBERTSON CUP FINAL. The possibility of stimulating more interest in the present season's ladies hoelcey competitions was considered at a meeting of the Rotorua Ladies' Hockey Association held on Monday evening. A fair attendance of delegates was presided over by the president, Miss K. Carnachan. The secretary reported that the position of teams in the Robertson Cup competition after the last Saturday's games placed Shamrocks and Taniwha equal at the top of the ladder wit hlO points each, Mourea and Arawa following with 8 points apiece. Arawa had yet to meet Hinemoa to complete the round. In discussing the arrangements for the Wairua-a-Rangi Cup competition to follow, it was stated that the form and interest so far displayed this season was generally poor, the wide difference between the capabilities of certain teams being to a great extent the cause of this unfortunate position. , On the motion of Mr. A. G. Watts it was decided that, in order to provide contests of more interest to the public and to secure ,more even matches between the weaker teams the clubs be divided into two grades, the Wairua-a-Rangi Cup to be allocated for the A grade'and another to be provided for the B grade. The A grade will comprise the Shamrock, Taniwha, Mourea and Arawa Clubs, and the B grade Mamaku, Hinemoa, Whippets and possibly Putaruru. It was also decided to endeavour to arrange a match at Rotorua on Saturday, July 2, between a combined Whakatane-Te Puke team and a Rotorua representative side, and that if these efforts are successful the commencement of the next competitions be delayed until Saturday, July 9. The draw for the first round of matches in the next competition was arranged as follows: A Grade. Taniwha v. Mourea. ' Shamrocks v. Arawa. B Grade. Hinemoa v. Whippets. Mamaku will have the bye_ but will play Putaruru if this team joins the competition. Robertson Cup Final. Next Saturday's matches at the Government Grounds will complete the Robertson Cup competition and will include the play-off for the trophy between Shamrocks and Taniwha at 3 p.m. The Arawa versus Hinemoa fixture will serve as a cur-tain-raiser to this game and will be played at 2 p.m. The Mourea Club were granted permission to travel to Murapara on Saturday next or on the following Saturday, subject to the competition matches not being played and that players required by the selectors for the Rotorua team in its match against the combined Te Puke-Whakatane team be available.
