COAL STRIKE
WAIKATO MEN STILL REFUSE TO RETURN TO WORK HUNTLY, Tues. The miners in Waikato are still on strike, and there is no indieation of an early resumption of woi*k. The position at Huntly was unchanged this afternoon. Interviewed to-day Mr. W. Davison secretary of the Work ers' Union, stated tliat nothing further will be known until after the coal owners meet in Wellington to-morrow and until word comes from Mr. McLagen, of the southern miners. Mr. Davison thought there was no possibility of the miners commencing work this week. In connection with the employment of relief labour to handle the slack coal at the carbonisatidn works the District Council decided this morning to make no move in the matter and the men there have resumed work. A meeting of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners' Association will be held in Wellington to-morrow. The president, Colonel W. D. Holgate and the Hon. E. W. Alison, left last evening, and it is possible that other representatives of the Northern collieries will go South to-day.
