ROTORUA HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR FIFTEEN SHOWS GOOD PROMISE The first fifteen of the junior division of the Rotorua High School acquitted itself in promising fashion against a junior team from the Matamata High School on Saturday. The final score tof 12 — 3 in favour of Rotorua was a fair indication of the relative merits of the teams in a bright and interesting game. Matamata kicked off and immediately the Rotorua backs began handling the ball. From a line out, the ball went to Frost who cut in to give , Brooker on the wing a clear run in. Hall failed with the kiek. Even play followed, till from a scrum the ball was handled by all the backs. Hall, when tackled, passed to Bennett, who had followed up hard, to score far out. The kick was disallowed. Rotorua 6, Matamata nil. Matamata now pressed and Rotorua were penalised for off side play. Brooker clear ed. At this juncture, Matamata backs were doing some fine line kicking and Ewert and Murray showed up in fine dribbling rushes. From a free kick, Hall failed to goal. Matamata continued to press, but Skinner relieved the pressure by marking. From Rotorua's twenty-five line, Bennett intercepted a pass and ran to half way where he passed to Brooker who made a nice run to score well out. Skinner failed with the kick. De Luen sent back two attacks with line kicks. The half time score was Rotorua 9, Matamata nil. Second Spejl Shartly after opening the second spell, the Rotorua backs secured the ball from a scrum. At this stage, Matamata were keeping Rotorua busy on defence. Poor line kicking by Rotorua backs gave Matamata several opportunities, but Bennett and Ewert were prominent on defence. The Rotorua forwards relieved the pressure, and the game ended Rotorua 12 Matamata 3 Mr. R. Webb controlled the game.
