DESIRE TO AGREE

Press. Assn.-

SOLID PRESSURE EXERTED

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

LONDON, Tuesday. A spirit of compromise seems to ave actuated both sides in arrangng- the Irish discussions. While it is true Mr. de Valera delared if Britain wanted to discuss ie treaty the British Ministry would ave to come to Dublin. he actually ook the initiative and summoned Mr iulanty (the Free State High Comlissioner in London), to Dublin for onferenee on Friday, after which Mr lulanty saw Mr. Thomas on Saturay and conveyed the invitation which ie Cabinet's Irish sub-committee acepted on Sunday. There is undisguised anxiety in lublin as to the results of sacrificing Iritish preferences; indeed falling L-ade and rising unemployment aleady reflect the crisis. It remains to be seen how far the ivergent views may be reconciled, ut hope is drawn from the fact that Ir. de Valera himself has undertaken o come to London on Friday to give he British delegates an opportunity f conferring with the full Cabinet. Obviously solid pressure has been xerted in Dublin, not the least of xneiu'f the Oath Bill on Thursday to mend the Oath Bill on Thursday by tiaking it ineffeetive till Britain conents to the removal of the oath.
