RELIEF RATIONS
(Press. Assn.-
official statement ONLY UNEMPLOYED UNDER BOARD TO RECEIVE BENEFITS HOSPITAL ASSISTANGE
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Interviewed regarding the issue of rations, the Minister of Employment, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, said that some misunderstanding seemed to exist as to the extent to which this as- : sistance could he given. It is not proposed said the Minister, that the Unemployment Board shall deal with all those in the past who have obtained' assi'stance from the Hospital Boards, but the relief will be confined ; to those employed by the Unemployment Board as relief workers. Hospital boards will, as in the past, continue to care for the heeds of old age pensioners and the dependents of indigent single men. The Unemployment Board's funds are by no means unl'imited, said the Minister, but the full extent to which the funds will allow rations relief to be given in those cases - which upon consideration, are found to be specially deserving, will be employed. |
