OLD BOYS A The main attraction at Arawa Park on Saturday was the High SchoolOld Boys A clash, the latter going under by three to nil in one of the best matches seen this season. ^ Both teams gave an excellent exhibition of the code, but School won because they were the best trained and fittest team on the day. A feature of the game was the fine display given by Beale, the School fullback, whose judgment in linekicking was faultless. Although Old Boys, territorially, had the better of the play, and on several occasions lcept up a heavy pressure in their opponents' twentyfive, credit must be given the School for their solid defence, which completely cheelced Old Boys from scoring. Failing to back a man up cost Old Boys tries on two occasions, once in the first half, when Christophers broke through, but was brought down 15 yards from the line and there lost possession through lack of support. Again, in the second half, McRae broke clean away, but had nobody to transfer to when tackled by Matthews 10 yards from the line, and a eertain try was lost. The School pack, although giving away weight, hooked the ball more clea'nly and more often than Old Boys, but repeated handling in the scrums gave their opponents chances to gain points per the free kick. The backs were well served by Dawson, and Park showed to advantage in brilliant passing rushes, which demonstrated the machine-like handling that is characteristic of School football and training. Content to keep the game im the forwards, Old Boys relied upon their advantage in weight and on line-kick-ing to gain ground, although on several occasions they were responsible for strong passing rushes, but man to man tackling by the School backs completely broke up the movements. When Mitchell scored the try for School, Old Boys were caught napping. Receiving the ball from the scrum, Dawson sent to Mitchell on the blind wing, and the latter, finding the opposing wing out of position, ran up the line to score well out.

Although Old Boys had the offensive, the fitness and training of the School was telling in the final stages of the game enabling them graduilly to work Old Boys "back to neutral ground, where play was when the game ended. For School all worked as one unit, Beale, Matthews, Park, Berghan and Barber being prominent. Gainsford, Vercoe, Stallard, Christophers, Williams and Musgrave showed to advantage for Old Boys. Mr. R. Mason refereed the game.
