— By Telegraph— Copyright).
CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour was the sentence imposed by Mr- E. D. Mosley, S.M;, on Charles Francis Riley (38) a Gommunist, who pleaded guilty to having in his possession for distribution a booklet entitled "Strike Strategy and Taetics" which encourages and advises lawlessness and expresses sedition. "Since you were before the Court before," said the Magistrate, 'T have taken the trouble to read "Strike Strategy and Tactics" from end to end. It is full of matter written without any other object than to incite certain persons to strike and to resist law and order, and generally to cause turmoil in our little country. There is one signifieant passage .. near the end which says that the Red " Internationale of Labour Unions must be informed of all conflicts in this country. "You have been convicted and despit^s the fact that the Court has treated you with great leniency, you have consistently ignored the sentiments for law and order in this country. The court has only one thing to do if you persist, in sentencirig you to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour."
