-By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
SYDNEY, Thursday. Messages from Vila (New Hebrides) state that a cyelone on the nights of Monday and Tuesday last unroofed houses and stores. Lighters were sunk in the Vila Harbour, and trading cutters were driven ashore. Inter-island shipping were forced to shelter. Much darnage to plantations resulted. The Burns Philp Company's steamer Malinoa was driven on a reef at the Island of Aoba. The passengers, provisions and mail were landed safely. Attempts to re-float the vessel have failed. It is an exceptionally treacherous coast. The sea is now cairn. The damage done in the northern islands is unknown, but it is- anticipated it iS severe on the eastern and southern coasts. Vila is on the sheltered western side, and thus escaped the full force of the hurricane.
