OTAGO CAPPING CARNIVAL ABOLISHED BY COUNCIL NO PROCESSION IN FUTURE

DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The University Council to-day adopted a report by the Pl-ofessorial Board, the effect of which will he the virtual abolition of the capping carnival as it has been constituted for many years. The graduation ceremony will be held in the first term, and the capping entertainment, which is all that survives of the carnival, must be held in the second term and is limited to four nights. The capping ball as at present constituted is abolished, but may be ressurrected under the control of the Council. No procession or appearance on the streets in fancy dress will be allowed.
