RESPITE FROM STRENUOUS N.Z. TOUR IN ROTORUA BRIEF VISIT YESTERDAY In the course of his tour of the Dominion, General Higgins, supreme head of the Salvation Army, yesterday arrlved in Rotorua and leaves this morning for Putaruru, Cambridge and Hamilton. At the general's speciai request, his Rotorua visit was freed entirely from official functions and was taken as an opportunity to afford him a much needed respite from a strenuous tour. General Higgins, was accompanied by Mrs Higgins, Colonel Pugmire his aide-de-camp, • Commissioner and Mrs Cunninghatti, who are in charge pf fhe Army in New Zealand, and Ensign Pallant, the General's private secretary. The party left Wellington on Tuesday and arrived in Hastings in the j afternoon. A civic reception was a.ccorded the General at the railway station by the Mayor and eOuneillors of -the borough and in the evening a large public meeting was held, From Hastings the party proceeded to Wairakei where they arrived at noon on Wednesday and spent 'the afternoon viewing.the thermal sights of the Geyser Valley. The party arrived in Rotorua at midday yesterday and in the afternoon visited Whakarewarewa. In the evening, the General entertained officers of the Rotorua corps. This morning, the general wi]l leave for Putaruru where he will inspect the Salvation Army boys' farm. He will then go pn to Cambridge where an official welcome will he tendered, In the evening, General Higgins vfrll address a public meeting in Hamilton. The General stated yesterday that he was most impressed by New Zealand an charmed by its people. Both Mrs Higgins apd himself had enjoyed their all to brief visit to Rotorua and had been particularly interested in their first experience of thermal sightseeing.
