LADIES' GOLF

ANNUAL MEETHNG MOST SUGCESSFUL SEASON IN HISTORY OF CLUB RESIGNA'TION OF SECSETARY There was an excellent attendaree at the annual meeting of the Rotorua : Ladies' Golf Club which was held in • the golf house last evening. The elub j captain, Miss S, Snodgrass, occupied J the chair. "I am very pleased to see so many present," sa;d Miss Snodgrass in opening the meeting. "It means that you are showing an interest in the club." Miss Snodgrass then referred to the success of last season, saying that it was the most important in the history of the club for it meant that their status was raised from that of a mere country club to that of one of some importance. She hoped that this posit:on would be maintained and asked the members to keep this in mind when they elected their offieers for the ensuing year. Th report, and balance sheet and the secretary's report for the year were then read and both were adopted without comment. The resignations of Mrs E. La Trobe Hill and Mrs E. M. Hall, as secretary and treasurer respectively, were received with regret and it was decided that their names be recorded in recogmtion of their valuable services to the club. The decision was received with acclamation. The election of officers resulted as follows: Captain, Miss S. Snodgrass; vice-captain, Mrs R. Copeland-Smith; secretary, Mrs A. Walden (pro tem); committee, Mrs E. La Trobe Hill, Mrs A. Walden, Mrs R. P. Spedding, Miss K. Carnachan and Mrs Haymes. It was decided that as the club had grown so large a request be made to the men's annual meeting that provision be made for a paid lady secretary. A vote of thanks to the outgoi og committee for the excellent work th »y had done during last season was meved by Mrs A. C. Randerson, secor 1ed by Miss E. Simmers and carrl >d with acclamation. As there were only six members l .Tt in the C grade it was decided that this grade be abobshed and the six lr lies concerned play with the B gra ie, with handicaps between 1 38- and 36. The actual handicap to be allotted was left in the hands of the committee.

Sunday Play Miss Snodgrass in referring to Sunday play, said that she did not like seeing the women tip their ball off the tee in front of a crowd of men, as very of ten Sunday was the only occf sbn on which the men could fit in a round of golf. The worst oTenders, the speaker pointed out, were ladies who played during the week. She did rot think the practice fair to the nr n, especially as their annual subscrlption was much higher than theirs. No action was taken in the matt u\ but Miss Snodgrass asked the lad es

to use the'r discretion and not hold up the men on Sunday s. It was decided that the period for scoring commence on April 1 and end on October 31, instead of at the end of November, as was the case last year. As there • is now no C grade, the subscription for the prize fund was reduced from ten shillings to seven shillings and six pence. A letter is to be sent to the men's committee asking that a shelter be erected at No. 9 tee as there was often a hold-up there, and nowhere to gat eover in bad weather. Anoth'er request was made to the men's committee that the season be opened with a dance at the club house.
