CAR OVERTURNS

MELODY BOYS' NARROW ESCAPE ON MAMAKU HILLS RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS After grazing a bank at the si-de of the road about sixteen miles from Rotorua on the main Auckland Highway at 6.30 yesterday morning, a car .•wned by Mr Epi Shalfoon, and driven by Mr Colin Castleton, both of Rotorua, capsized. Three of the four occupants of the vehicle escaped lightly but the driver was rendered unconscious gnd internal injuries are I suspected. The car was extensively damaged, three of the four wheels collapsing, the chassis being bent, the rear engine casting broken, the mudguards and running boards smashed and much of the glass in the windows splintered. Three of the occupants, Messrs Castleton, Tregilgas and E. Munsden are members of Epi Shalfoon's Melody Boys dance band and were returnjgig home after fulfilling an engagement in Auckland. All except the driver were asleep in the car at the time of the acc:dcnt and knew nothing of how it occurred but it is understood that visibility was bad. Messrs Tregilgas and Munsden set off to walk for assistance leaving the other occupant to look after Castleton. They returned later with a private car the owner of which brought them into Rotorua. The wrecked vehicle was brought to town later in the morning by Bates and Sons salvage waggon.
