GRAND THEATRE
TO-NIGHT ' Richard Barthelmess is supported by beautiful Mary Astor in "The Lash," the First National production now showing at the Grand Theatre. She plays the part of Rosita Garcia, sweetheart of the hero, who portrays a dashing vaquero of old California, avenger of the wrongs of his people, who are victims of the desperadoes that infested that golden land following Mexico's • ceding of it to the United States. "The Lash" has everything. There is adventure and romance, drama and comedy, history and fiction and all that any group of individuals might select as the requisites of an allround good picture. There is hard-riding in "The Lash," and romantic love scenes to make two sighs grow where only one grew before. Barthelmess has an excellent supporting cast including such players as Mary Astor, Marian Nixon, James Rennie, Robert Edeson, Fred Kohler, Arthur Stone, Erville Alderson, Barbara Bedford, Leon Pedro, Tony Merlo and others. Frank Lloyd has again submitted a superb directorial effort. His handling of the thrilling cattle stampede is one of the finest things we have ever seen. Altogether "The Lash" is splendid entertainment.
