AT TAKANINI

AUCKLAND HORSES AUCKLAND, Thursday. The following horses left for Rotorua this morning: — Sir Mond, Ornamental, Brampton, Good Idea, Hawthorn, Karangapai, Excella Tea, Silene, Great Emblem, Grand Spirit, Tea Chat and Teels. Karangapai and Excella Tea, at Takanini this morning, were eompanions over four furlongs, running the distance in 50 4-5s. They were- on terms at the finish and both did their work well. Grand Spirit, Llanore and Brampton were associated over a mile, being joined by Great Emblem at the six-furlong post. The first two furlongs took 25s, the first half-mile 50 2-5s, the full distance being cut out in 1.44. Great Emblem was about six lengths ahead at the finish, with Llanore and Grand Spirit next and Brampton tailed off. Great Emblem ran his six furlongs in 1.18 3-5, doing it impressively, and he should race well at Rotorua. The two-year-old filly Ornamental sprinted three furlongs on the No. 2 grass in 38 3-5s. Ornamental is due to have her first race at Rotorua. It is stated that Chief Jewel will contest the Rotorua Cup in preference to the Tourist Handicap, unless present intentions are altered. K. Voitre will ride him and also Speedmint in the Tourist Handicap.
