WIFE'S COMPLAINT
HUSBAND BEFORE COURT ON MAINTENANCE CHARGE RELEASED ON BA'IL Brought before the court by his wife on a complaint that he intended to fail in the provision of maintenance for herself and his family, a Rotorua resident, George Albert Worthington, was yesterday remanded to appear on February 8 and admitted to bail in one surety of £50. Mr. E. Roe, who ap|peared for Worthington, pleaded not guilty, but stated that as he had only been instructed that afternoon , he must ask for an adjournment until the next court. Worthington was on relief work and had no money, so that there was no chance of his absconding. The wife had alleged that Worthington had threatened to leave the town, but his elient strongly denied that he had expressed any such intention. It was also denied that Worthington had been drinking heavily during the past week, and he asked that he be realeased on bail so that he would not lose the relief wages for the next week's work due to him. Mr. R. Potter ,who appeared for the wife, said that he did not oppose an adjournment but asked that security be fixed to ensure that the accused would appear when required. He also asked that Worthington he ordered not to molest. his wife, as he had already used bad. language to her and had necessitated her leaving the place where she had been staying. Mr. Potter also suggested that the wife be given interim custody of the children until the complaint was heard. Worthington was remanded until February 8 and bail was fixed in one surety of £50. He was also directed by the Magistrate, Mr. S. L. Paterson S.M., not to molest his wife.
