THE CARNIVAL
COMMITTEE'S SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT YEAR'S FIXTURE STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS Reporting on the success of the New Year carnival to the Rotorua Borough Council at. its meeting on Wednesday night, the Publicity and Amusements committee which was in charge of the carnival, made the following suggestions as to the organisation of next year's carnival fixfixture. — (1) That 4 mounted stewards be arranged for in connection with the procession to prevent a repetition of breaks in' the procession. (2) That endeavours be made to prevent shop-keepers from selling fire-works \on carnival nights. (3) That the carnival be limited to three nights instead of a week. (4) That the platform on the Town Square be built a little higher and be placed in the centre facing Fenton Street. (5) That an endeavour be made to have more lights in the procession. (6) That an area be set aside on the Town Square for visitors only. (7) That a prize be given for the best home-made costume. (8) That a sound board be placed at the back of the stage. (9) That the procession go twiee round the block instead of only once. (10) That an endeavour be made to hold a band concert in Rotorua during the next carnival, and if such can be arranged, the bands be requested to take part in the procession. The committee also reported that bhe nett cost of the carnival was £174 6s, the biggest items of expenditure being as follows: — Labour and vehicles, erection of platform carting of seats, trestles etc., £55 10s. Organiser's salary and expenses £36 Booklet £15 8s 6d., Prizes £38 5s Reviewing its funds the committee reported that of an estimated expenditure of £835 for 12 months, £474 had been expended over a 9 months period.
