DUNLOP SHIELD TOURNAMENT AT WHAKATANE RANGITAIKI DEFEATED

WHAKATANE, Saturday. The Dunlop Shield Tennis Tournament was carried a step further today when Whakatane played Rangitaiki at Whakatane, resulting in an easy win for Whakatane by 16 games to three. Following are individual scores. Whakatane names being mentioned first : — Ladies' Singles: Mrs Symmans beat Mrs Marx 6-0, 6-1; Miss B. Guest beat Mrs Patience 6-2, 6-2. Miss M. Hogg beat Miss Patience 6-1, 6-2; Miss K. Guest beat Mrs Turnbull 6-1, 6-0. Men's Sjngles: O. Simmonds lost to Howell 6-1, 6-2 ; A. Powdrell beat G. Turnbulb 6-1, 6-0; N. S. Coney lost to Williams 6-5, 2-6, 6-1; A. Bridger lost to Patience 3-6, 6-5, 6-3. Ladies Doubles: Mrs Symmans and Miss B. Guest beat Mrs Marx and Mrs Pgtience 6-1, 6-2; Miss M. Hogg and Miss K. Guest beat Miss Patience and Mrs Turnbull 6-2, 6-0. Men's Doubles: O. Simmonds and A. Powdrell beat Turnbull and Howell, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0; N. Coney and A. Bridger beat Williams and Patience 5-6, 6-3, 6-5. Mixed Doubles: Miss B. Guest and O. Simmonds beat Mrs Patience 'and G.
