matches at rotorua ALBION BEHIND MAMAKU ON FIRST INNINGS GOOD SHOWING BY CITY The game between the championship leaders, Albion and Mamaku, played at Mamaku on Saturday, had reached a very interesting stage when play closed for the day. Mamaku took first strike and three wiekets were down for three runs, due to good bowling by Burton. rlansen went to a. brilliant catch hy Hinton in the slips, while Dods was neatly snapped up by Hampson at point. A good partnership between Simmonds and Re.ed retrieved the position and Hall compiled a quick 20 runs, not out. Simmonds' innings of 35, although not chanceless, was quite a sound knock, and he was mainly responsible for Mamaku's score of 91 runs. Burton and Hinton gave Albion a good start, and put on 34 runs for the first wicket, when Burton was well caught by Lockie. Hinton was bowled by Reed shortly after, and ■;.hen McGill and Gresham took the icore to 64, McGill dominating the bowling. When Lenihan went out for 12 runs, four wiekets were down for 80, and Albion's chances of a first innings lead were bright. Hampson made two runs, but five successive wiekets fell without further addition to the score, the whole side being out for 82 runs, Lockie and Reed being the destroying agents. Mamaku in their second innings had ;^it on 10 runs without loss when stumps were drawn. Seven wiekets were down for 121 •uns, but the "tail" played brightljq Davis and Mulligan, in particular, corlng well and carrying the total to 155 runs before the last wicket had 'allen. The improved batting forra "f the -onthful tail-ender, Mulligan, in face )f the deadly bowling of Keane, was \ pleasure to watch and evidence the ;ood results of batting practice. He vas undefeated when the last wicket fell, with 11 runs to his credit. Keane bowled very steadily •hroughout the innings, and ended in w'th the good figures of eight vickets for 50 runs off 13 overs. He v'as undoubtedly the hardest bowler o play, and at all times kept the latsmen quiet. High School had only 15 runs on he board when their first wicket fell, linton bemg bowled by Harding, and .he second fell with only one more •un added. Beale, however, was batting in his lsual form and becoming associated vith Keane, the score was sent along teadily and had reached 71 runs >efore Keane was smartly stumped by Iason off the bowling of Mulligan.
