MENTAL PATIENT JUMPS BENEATH PASSENGER COACH RETURNING FROM HOLIDAY

PALMERSTON NORTH, Tues. Shortly after one o'-clock a passenger on the South-bound Napier express, Oavid Fox, a single man aged 31 years, jumped from the platform under a carraige and was killed instantly. Fox was a patient at the Porirua Mental Hospital. He had been on leave for Christmas to visis his parents at Hastings, and was returning to the institution accompanied by his brother-in-Iaw. When the train left Palmerston North, deceased expressed a desire to leave the carriage and did so. His relative going out with him. However, immediately he reached the platform, de dived down between the carriages and was mangled by the wheeles.
