400 MILES OF FLAME GRAVE RISKS TAKEN IN EFFORTS TO CHECK BUSH FIRES DISASTER IN WESTERN N.S.W.

SYDNEY, Tuesday. Desperation is gripping the Western firefighters. They are talcing any ri'sks in an effort to stem the fires and serious casualties are feared if the high winds which began last night, continue. The front of the .fire is now 400 niiles long and about 1,500,000 acres have been burnt, There are fresh outbreaks everyw;here. The weather bureau offers no hope of rain, for which prayers are being offered in the churches. Three thousand sheep at Hillston blinded by smoke, were trapped and perished. The graziers are finding dead sheep everywhere. The secretary of the Graziers' Association has appealed to the Government for help.
