search for opponent to mr h. c. hoover THIRD PARTY GROUP
-By TeKgraph — Copyright.)
WASHINGTON, Tues. The Republican Independents are seriously considering a third party movement in 1932 in the event of the Republican and Democratic Conventions failing to nominate a man to their liking. The group comprises the Senate Independents and it is opposed to the re-nomination of Mr. H. C. Hoover. Conferences have been going on looking for a man to contest the nomination against Mr. Hoover, but no single candidate has been agreed upon.
Senator Njrris (Nebraska) has been asked to contest the position against Mr. Hoover, hut has declined. Mr. Norris, however, is definitely understood to be ready to support any of the four candidates under consideration if a third party is organised. He is looked upon, together with Sbnator Borah, as likely to be the head of the ticket. The other possible candidates are Mr. Borah, Mr. Johnson (California) and Mr. Pinchot (Pennsylvania) . Privately it is intimated that none of the potential Democratic candidates, with the possible exceptiori of Governor Roosevelt (New York), is acceptable. Mr. Borah has always stood by the Republican Party, hut has been in frequent eonflict with Mr Hoover's policy, principally on tariffs and farm relief.
