TENNIS RESULTS

christmas tourney ROTORUA PLAYERS DEFEATED IN CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS RAIN POSTPONES PLAY It was hoped that some of the finals in the Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club's Christmas tournament, being played in the Government Gardens. would be contested yesterday, but^a heavy rain storm at about 4.30 in the afternoon flooded the courts and play had to be postponed until this morning. A large crowd of spectators had gathered to witness the concluding games and all were disappointed when the weather brought the matches to a sudden conclusion. Both players and ohlookers made a rush for shelter, many finding it in the line of motorears in the drive, while the remainder crowded into the small club-house. There were several interesting contests during the day but the men's championship doubles in which the Smith brothers, of Rotorua, were defeated by Brough and Howard, of Hamilton, 6 — 2, 6 — 2, was a disapment to residents.
