MAORI CARNIVAL
HANGI AND CGNCERT WILL BE HELD TO-MORROW NIGHT . POSTPONED OWING TO RAIN Following the heavy rainstorm yesterday afternoon a meeting of the executive of the Carnival Committee was held to consider the position regarding the Maori hangi and entertainment scheduled to take place in the Town Square last evening. After consultation with the elders of the Maori tribes, it was decided to postpone the whole programme until Wednesday evening. This decision was re'ached with considerable regret, out in view of the fact that the ground was under water to a depth in some places of more than an inch, there was no alternative, in the interests of the spectators. It was also felt that the very complete arrangements made by the Maoris for the entertainment of their visitors and pakeha fellow townsmen warranted every effort to ensure the presentation of their part in the carnival under the most favourable eircumstanees. The committee will now propose to the visitors who had prepared an ex- ; cellent programme for Wednesday I that they present their evening's en- ; tertainment on Saturday evening next.
