Residents of Tahuna are busy collecting coal which is being washed ip on the sands. Several theories have been advanced for the presence of the coal, but the most likely is that put forward by the harbourmaster, Captain Collins. The dredge has been at work at the northern end of the wharf and the material picked up is deposited on the Blind Channel. In course of time a considerable quantity of ccal drops into the harbour during discharg'ing and loadirig operaUons, and this has been nicked up by the dredge and carr'ed on to the sands from the Blind Channel by the first of the flood tides,
