AUTHORITY GIVEN BY PHONE FOR FORMATION OF •GOVERNMENT FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
— By Telegraph — Copyright)
SYDNEY, Friday. The new Feaderal Ministry will formally take office on January 6. There have been two interesting departures from the usual custom in the formation of a new Government. To save Mr. J. H. Scullin (the'retiring Prime Minister) a trip to Can-
berra, the GoVernor-General, Sir Isaac Isaacs, accepted his resignation by telephone, and extended the same courtesy to Mr. J. A. Lyons, authorising him by telephone to proceed with the formation of a Ministry, instead of requiring a personal interview.
