LONG-TERM CONVICTS SECURE ARMS AND KIDNAP WARDER FIGHT BATTLE WITH TROOPS

Rec. Dec. 12, 0.0 p.m. NEW YORK, Friday. At the Leavenworth Penitentiary, Kansas, six Iong-term convicts armed with shot guns and presenting forged passes entered the prison offiees, seized Warden. White, and escaped in a stolen automobile, while a riot among the convicts delayed pursuit. The .warden fonght his captors and finally escaped from the convicts 15 miles from the prison, where he was found lying on the road seriously injured. Troops pursued the prisoners, who took refuge in a farm house. They held as hostages the farm owners and two prison guards, the first to reach the scene, who were wounded in attempting to enter the farm house. A battle ensued and finally concentrated fire by the troops killed three of the convicts and the other three surrended. The prison is now reported quiet.
