MAKING ATTEMPT ON LAND 'PLANE RECORD MACHINE STRIKES GROUND

DETROIT, Saturday. Lowell R. Bayles, a Springfield, (Massachusetts) speed flier was killed on Saturday when his 'plane struck the ground and burst into flames. Bayles was making an attempt on the world's land 'plane record. A few days ago he attained 281.9 miles per hour.
