EFFICIENT SERVICE

"POST" BOARD GIVES RESULTS THROUGHOUT COUNTRY AND ELECTORATE The results board and special screen arranged by the "Morning Post" provided a complete running record of the results both in the Rotorua electorate and in the outside constituencies. A very large crowd colleeted soon after the first results commenced to come through, and as the evening advanced, traffic in Hinemoa Street was completely blocked. Using the broadcast wireless results in conjunetion with the Press Association reports and its own local service, the "Post" was able to report the progress of the election throughout the country minute by minute. In addition to the board outside the "Post" office, results were supplied promptl'y to the Majestic Theatre authorities who flashed them on a special screen outside the theatre. The close nature of the polling in the Rotorua contest aroused intense interest, and successive results as they arrived were greeted with cheers according to the sympathies of the different sections of the crowd. The Rotorua Municipal Band proyided a programme of music during the posting of the results. The first local figures were received from Waiohau five minutes after the closing of the poll, and the announcement that the Labour candidate, Mr. A. F. Moncur had been the only candidate to poll votes in that district immediately aroused interest. A floodlight focussed on the board gave every section of the crowd a fair view of the figures and in view of the indeterminate nature of the

final figures announced from the central returning office, at the Courthouse, it was some ' time before the crowd dispersed. The "Post" desires to thank the Tourist Department for fixing lights in conneqtion with the board, the Borough Council and Mr. R. H. Reed for supplying the loud speaker and announcing the results, Mr. McDermott of the Majestic Theatre for posting up results at the theatre, Mr. W. A. McLean, Messrs. Bonnington, C. Goodson, D. Smith, and a number of other voluntary helpers who assisted, and the returning officer, Mr. J. R. Crowther for the prompt and efficient manner in which he supplied the results.
