MAORI NOMINATIONS I E Nominations of candidates for the jf Maori seats in the House of Represen- = tatives, closed yesterday. S For the Eastern Maori electorate in f Nvhich the Rotorua district is includ- 1 ed, three nominations were received * but only two were accepted, that of Wiremu Te Haeata, of Opotiki, farmer, being disallowed as his name ap- ^ pears on the European roll. The two candidates who will go to the poll are: — Sir Apirana Turupu Ngata, of Waiomatini, the sitting member, who is - the official Coalition candidate. Pita Te Turiki Tamati Moko, of Ratana, who describes himself as an Independent. The Maori poll, which is conducted separately from the European general elections, will be taken on Tuesday, December 1. Following is the list of candidates for the four Maori seats : — Eastern Pita Te Turiki Tamati Moko, of Ratana (Independent) . Apirana Turupu Ngata, of Waomatini (Coalition). • * Northern Hemi Whautere Witehira. Paraire Karaka Pikea (Independent) .
Tau Henare (Coalition Reform). Southern H. W. Katene (Independent). T. Makitanara (Coalition). E. T. Tirikatene (Ratanite). All are North Islanders. Western T. Te Tomo (Coalition Reform). R. Wakarua (Independent Reform) . P. T. Eketone. H. H. Piahama. H. P. Ratana. T. Takarehi (otherwise James Douglas) .
