woman attacked THRQTTLEP, BLINDED AND BOUND TO BED BY TWO MEN JEWELLERY AND CASH STOLEN

CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A brutal assault occurred at Leithfield Beach last night, when Mrs Annie Elizabeth Evans, an elderly woman living alone in a shop and dwelling, was attacked, throttled,.and bound by two men who stole jewellery valued at £100 and £5 in cash. The assault occurred between 2 and 3 a.m., when Mrs Evans was .in bed. The locality is almost deserted during the mid-week, and no one else saw the men. After hitting the woman on the head they partly throttled her, threw ammonia in her eyes, and then tied her down on the hed by her arms and legs. This morning Mrs Evans was still blind from the effeets of the ammonia and was suffering greatly from shock. Her eondition was serious, but she was able to furnish a description to the police.
