ANGLO-IRISH TREATY
(Tynes Cable)
EFFECT OF STATUTE OF WESTMIN STER GUARDING EMPIRE INTERESTS
Rec. Nov. 16, 7.10 p.m. LONDON, Sunday. Lord Carson and Lord Danesfort and two members of the House of Commons, Colonel J. Gretton and Mr Somerville, in a letter to the "Times" apropos.the second reading of the statute of Westminster, which will be. taken on Tuesday contend that if the Statute enables the Irish Free State to abolish appeals to the Privy Council, there will be nothing to prevent the Free State from tearing up the whole Anglo-Irish Treaty. The writers add that Loyalists regard the Privy Council as not only a safeguard, but as the last tangible link binding the Free State to the Empire. They urge that the Anglo-Irish Treaty rights should be expressly reserved from the operation of Free State legislation. Professor J. H. Morgan will address a joint meeting of peers and members of the House of Commons in this connection to-day.
