Lively scenes were witnessed outside the Darlinghurst Supreme Court, to-day, the occasion being the trial of 17 men arrested during the anti-eviction riot at Bankstown a few months ago. Nearly 1000 people surged roUnd the entrance to the Court, hootitag the ^jolice and singing the "Red Flag.'A* Communist mounted a soap box and began to address the demonstrators, but the police hauled him down resisting and kicking. The situation was extremely grave, but the police drew their batons and scattered the ihan's sympathisers and arrested a good many, including women with children in their arms, who were screeching and protesting.
