BROADCASTING BILL
("Post" Special Commissioner)
CLAUSES ESTABLISHING BOARD OF CONTROL AMENDED SECOND READING CARRIED
WELLINGTON, last night. Although not -effeeting the power of eontrol principal of the legislation, several amendments of importance were introduced into the Broadeasting Bill in the House of Representatives to-night. It was originally proposed that the New Zealand Broadcasting Board to be established under the Bill shonld consist of four members but an amendment reduces the personnel to three. The remuneration of the Chairman is increased from £600 to £650 per year, and that of the two remaining members from £250 to £350. A new clause provides for the establishment of an advisory council to assist the board and to consist of eight members, of whom the North Island will provide five, and the South Island three. The Minister will make the appointments, which are for three years. During the debate on the second reading of the Bill all the speakers eommended the principal which provides for the Government taking over the stations and assets of the New Zealand Broadcasting Company and placing them under the eontrol of a board to be appointed by the Gov-ernor-General. Labour members contended that the eontrol should either be in the hands of the Post and Telegraph Department or a board elected by the listeners-in. The Bill was read a second time without dissent. ,
