SEVERAL AMENDMENTS SPECIAL PROVISION FOR CITY LICENSING AUTHORITIES • RAILWAYS GIVEN PREFEREN CE n
WELLINGTON, last night.. Several important changes to the Transport Licensing Bill were introduced in the House of Representatives to-night. It is now proposed to retain the Auckland Transport Board, and the Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin City Councils as licensing authorities. » Provision is made for the eontrol of commercial aviation. It is also proposed to introduce a . penal fare ip. ^ districts already serye"d hy a tramway service. * Apart from the metropolitan licensing areas other portions of the North and South Islands may he divided by the Governor-General-in-Council into such number of transport districts as he 'thinks fit. The Railw'ays Board is to be included in those bodies which are to have preference so far as applications for licenses are concerned. The Bill was read the first time.
