PARLIAMENTARY REPRESENTA IN INDUSTRIAL NORTH CABINET ALL RETUENED
' Special Commissioner)
EUGBY, Wednesday It is now clear that when Parliament reassembles the Government will have a majority larger than any of j its predecessors in the present century. Exceptionally heavy polling and overwhelming majorities were striking features of the election. In the constituencies in which the results have been declared, ahout 76 per cent. of the electorate voted, which considerably exceeds the percentage at Iast election, despite the fact that on that occasMn there were many more candidates in the field. The whole chnracter of Parliamentary representaticn of the laxge northcin manufacturing cities has changed. The only ex-Labour Ministers returned among last night's results were Mr. George Lansbury and Sir Stafford Cripps. The National Government gained an eleetoral victory unprecedented in its completeness. Tho great majority of the results have nov/ been declared. It is apparent that when the new Parliament meets the Government will have the suppoit oi approximately 560 members out of 615. Tho remainlng results to he declared ineluJe some University seats and civisions of Northein Scotland. The Cabinet Ministers in the National Government were all returned. The only member of the National Government to be defeated was Mr. E. D. Simon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health, who stood as a National Liberal. It is thought llkely that Mr. Lansbury will lead the Labour Party in the new Parliament.
