EEAYY FALL IN CHRISTCHURCH
— By Telegraph — Copyright.)
CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. A heavy, but fortunately not long continued fall of snow occurred on Saturday morning preeeded and follcwed by rain and a bitterly cold south-west wind. The afternoon was clear, but rain fell in the evening and there was a sharp drop in the temperature, so that frost was feared. However, before daybreak the sky clouded again and more rain fell. To-day the weather has been fine with warm sunshine. No damage was done by the snow or frost but fruit growers had an anxious night, fearing repetition of the devastating frost in October 1929, which destroyed their entire crops. All sports in the city were posponed on Saturday.
