' OFFENCES DUE TO DRINK

WANGANUI, Saturday. George Thomas McGovern, licensee of the Upokongaro Hotel, was fined £20 for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor ear. He was also sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for assaulting Constable Hollinshead by kicking him on the face while being placed in a taxi. For using obseene. language he was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment. The Magistrate, Mr. Salmon, refused to alter his decision in regard ' to imprisonment.
