— By Telegraph — Copyright.)

Rec. Oct. 25, 5.5 p.m. CHICAGO, Saturday. A1 Capone, the Chicago gangster leader, was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment and fined 50,000 dollars. In addition he must pay the costs of the prosecution, following his eonviction for evasion of the income j tax laws. The defence announced that an appeal would be lodged. Meanwhile Capone has been sent to prison. Apart from the sentence and the fine, Capone must pay 100,000 dollars and 137,328 dollars due for back income taxes. It was a smashing blow to the gangster chief, who tried to take it with a smile, but which proved but a wry one. Capone spent the week-end in gaol, after which he will petition the Court for release on bail, pending his appeal against the Court's decision. "Well you can see I intend to get ofFe with it," said Capone later, bnt his temper was not of the best. He attempted to kjek a little old man, who is the Internal Revenue Department's process server, when he handed him the writ attaching his property, and he also tried to pnnch a photographer^ Capone's sentence was big news in Chicago. The man on the street had ! considered all along that he was too 1 big for that. "He has got too mueh ! money and too much influence."
