Fqllowixxg the unusual dxscovery of a large eel in the Ohau channel last j month, some excitement was caused among the Maoris aroxind Rotoehu' when a further large specimen was eaught last Frxday in a stream ehteriUg the lake near Ho'ngi's Traek. . oldest Maoris living in the vicxrixty ,state that an eel has nevei" before been caught in Rotoehu or any of the streams flowing into it. This partieular speciment was about 101 lbs in woight and although it was tggarded as an object of consxderable I cUriosity, quickly found its way into* the cooking pot. The lakes and streams of the Rotorua district are notable as being entirely free from eels an isolated exception being Lake Tarawera where particularly large specimens are found
