QPPOSITION PARTIES ABSENT PREPARING ATTACK CHANCELLOR'S FIGHTING SPEECH
— By Telegraph — Copyright.)
Rec. Oct. 14, 5.5 p.m. BERLIN, Tuesday. The Reichstag- was guarded like a fortress at the opening of the new and critical session. The Nazis and Nationalists did not attend, but are expected to launch an attack on the Government to-morrow. Communist members frequently interrupted the Chancellor, Dr. Bruening, who made a courageous fighting speech. Germany, he said, must tread the strong path, the prospects of success or failure being about equal. The Government was establishing an economic advisory body, on which employers and employees would be represented, to assist in drafting a wage and price policy. The wage agreement system must be made more elastic to enable wages to be more rapidly adjusted to the changing economic conditions. The Government was determined to carry on until the moment arrived for international co-operation to prevent the world from sinking into chaos.
