AUCKLAND, Monday. An arrest under dramatic circumstances was made by detectives at Ponsonby this afternoon when batons were drawn while James Henry Edwards, aged 39 years, was taken into eustody on a charge of encouraging lawlessness in a speech made on Sunday. The arrest was made on the verandah of a house which had been barricaded since Thursday last in an effort to thwart the execution of an evietion order. 9 Edwards had addressed a erowd outside the house. Suddenly a motorcar containing police dashed up. Edwards made a dash up the steps of the verandah, but was overtaken by the detectives and uniformed police. The situation looked ugly for a moment, but the police got Edwards into the car and drove off without any trouble occurring.
