SWANSON SENSATION

(Press Assn.—

RECOVERY OF MISSING CAR AND MORE GOODS WHAT SPEEDOMETER SHOWED

-By Telegraph — Copyright.)

AUCKLAND, Monday. After the sensational arrest near Swanson early on Saturday morning of two brothers, one of them was taken by Detectives Packman and Hayes to the spot where the missing red motor car, in which the accused had escaped when ehased, was hidden in the bush near the Albany Road. When the car had been found the detectives visited a house at Albany, where they discovered a quantity of other articles, chiefly clothing. At the time the car was stolen the speedometer showed that it had covered less than 500 miles, but when recovered it had registered 4081 miles. A side lamp, the tail light, the back earrier and the nameplate on the radiator of the car had been taken off. Its original number plates had been removed and another plate had been attached to the front. There was no plate on the back. The upholstery inside had been damaged. The car was brought back to Auckland on Saturday evening. Two car loads of goods from the house at Albany were also brought back.
