AUCKLAND, Wednesday. Thirteen men who had been employed at the Otahuhu Rai!"way workships and had been with the service for periods of 30 years and over were retired to-day. They came under the Govermment's economy scheme, which is authorised by Clause 14 of ihe No. 1 Finance Act. "There is unrest in the service because of the way the Act has been administered," one man said this morning. "It is unjust and unfair to sack good workmen for no apparent reason. "It is our contention," he added, "that the pruning knife should be applied to the tops and not to the roots of the service. What is going to happen I cannot tell. You can take it from me there is unrest in the service and the men are fuil of apprenhension. No one knows who will be next."
