'5 COING CONFERENCE^ 4* SUGGESTED REMOVAL OF | 1932 MUNICIPAL % ASSEMBLY t * if WELLINGTON OR ROTORUA? $ • i At last night's meeting of the Roa torua Borough Council a letter waf received from the Municipal Associa* tion advising that in view of the pre^ vailing depression, considefation was being given to the 'desirability of * holding the forthcoming annual conr ference of the association in WeB' lington instead of in Rotorua as orK ginally decided. The associatio'fi also advised that it had been decide$| to open the conference on March 2| 1932. | "I think we are all agreed tha^ there is no reason why the confe^ ence should not be held here," remark ed Cr. O. H. Coleman, when the lei^ ter came tip for discussion. Cr. Coleman suggested that it) should be lef| to the Mayor and Cr. Johnston to reply in that strain. Executive's Action y The Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) saia that when the question was discusseef at the last meeting of the executive of the association, there was not-'-a full executive present. He had o^v posed the proposal to change th'j| venue of the conference very stron^ ly, but in fairness to other members of the executive, he wished to sa|t that they were quite agreeable to thh next full conference being held ip Rotorua. The majority opinion d'f the executive, however, had been* that in view of the financial stringr ency, a full conference should noE be held next year, but that the a§z sociation should meet only to coiir sider major matters. When times became more normal, it was suggested that the next full conference should be held in Rotorua as originally ar| ranged. He had opposed this vie'wl but he had been in the minority an| as a result, the executive had circuis arised all local bodies asking their views upon changing the venue of the; conference. "Got In Ahead." Immediately he had returneH "to; Rotorua after this meeting, his Wor|| ship added, he had instructed ther Town Cierk to circularise a-lL local; bodies putting forward Rotorua'!* case. A number of replies had alread^ boen received and the majority. o|; them were in favour of holding th|£ full conference in Rotorua. |- Cr. E. Johnston: In other wordS£ sir, you got in ahead of them. f The Mayor: Yes. £ It was left to the Mayor to deal" with the matter. '|r Jr
