GALATEA ESTATE
GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE PREPARING FOR SETTLERS WELLINGTON, Wed. Further progress at the Galatea Estate is reported by the Minister of Lands, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, who gave an outline of the latest developments to your commissioner to-day. Mr Ransom said it was proposed to sow 250 acres in chow chow moullier this season and the Agricultural Department has: a)L'rangements in
tram to start major operations on March 31 next. The Forestry Department has been authorised to carry out the planting of shelter belts next season and contracts for scrub cutting contx-acts. The Whii'inaki bridge has been completed and work on internal roading will follow. Authority has been issued to the drainage branch of the Department to go on with its work. The question of providing temporary accommodation for new settlers and the departmental officers and men necessary to carry on developmental opei-ations i3 at present being considered by Cabinet.
