MAYOR'S VIEW OF EDUCATION OF GIRLS IN NEW ZEALAND CHRISTIANITY AND COOKING HAMILTON,^ Wed. "I doubt vvbethei* any money spent on girls' education in this eountry to-day is worth twopence," declared the Mayor, Dr. F. D. Pinfold, speaking at the annual convention of the South Auckland area of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, which opened in Hamilton today. The Mayor pointed out that the Government was "hard up" and everybody was "hard up," yet about £5,000,000 annually was spent on education. Did tbey want their girls to learn algebra and trigonometry and fail miserably in their duties and natura! functions as housewives I and mothers? After expressing his ag).-eeh i ment with the opinion that a reJigious revival was needed to hasten the return of normal times, Dr. Pinfold said: — "There can be no Christianity ! in a home wbile there is bad cooking."
