CANBERRA, Wednesday. There was a painful scene at the re-opening of the Commonwealth Parliament. The Pi-ime Minister, Mr Scullin, in the House of Representatives, moved a vote of condolence and sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr Hugh Mahon, former Minister of Labour, whose death occurred recently. Mr. Roland Green, a member of the Country Party, and also an ex-soldier, said he dissociated himself absolutely from the motion, saying that although Mr. Mahon had served his constituents well, he ultimately fell from Australian sentiment and was expelled for having, in a speecli on Treland some years ago, referred to this as " a bloody and cui'sed Empire." The motion was carried in silence, Mr Green haVing retired from the House.
