Several Conservative organs interpret the appointment of the committee as bringing nearer the imposition of tariffs, eV6n by the present Government. Sir John Simon is said to be the latest convert. The inevitability of import duties is accepted. Many Liberals are willing to accept them if they are considered necessary by the committee. The "Daily Express" says: "English heavy cargoes of foreign manufactures are being rushed to Britain in order to evade duty.
